Officially speaking

The officiant search started in August, stalled in September and October, then resumed in November. Now that's it's December 1st, we're ready to pick an officiant. Finally, right? I don't know why we took so long to make a decision! It took all of 15 minutes to review the available officiants, select a package and email the coordinator. Procrastinating just made it worse and turned it into something that gave us agita, like preparing and filing our self-employed tax returns.

All we have to do is wait to hear if our first choice is still available. If not, the back-up choices are just as good. It was difficult to narrow down our favorites based on an online profile and picture. To be honest, it felt a little like online dating. We felt guilty picking based on their interests, previous jobs, or favorite tv shows. (Anyone who is a fan of the Daily Show, Curb Your Enthusiasm or Lost can't be all that bad!)

Sorry to disappoint all of our friends and family who've offered (joking and serious) to officiate. It would have been a hoot to have 20 of you ordained and alternate throughout the ceremony. With this decision made, the wedding seems that much closer and real. We're really doing this thing!

How long did it take you to choose an officiant?
